Saving Matches

 How are matches saved?
The record button on your game toolbar is on by default, so your matches will automatically be saved to the default location (usually the SaveGame folder in your GamesGrid directory). You will see a notification of a saved match when you exit the match. For example:

Your match with GGraccoon has been saved.

If you do not want to save the current backgammon match, toggle the record button off at any time during the match by clicking on it once. If you have AutoSave selected for both playing and watching (see How do I save matches automatically? below), the record button will automatically be on again for the next match you play or watch, so you won't have to worry about forgetting to toggle it back on.

What are the formats for saved matches?
Matches and positions may be saved in a variety of formats:

  • standard format matches (.txt)
  • GamesGrid matches (.cbg)
  • Snowie match imports (.sgg)
  • GamesGrid propositions (.bgp, single position only)
  • JellyFish positions (.pos, single position only)
The standard format (.txt) is a universal format that is used by all of the major analysis applications: BGBlitz, GnuBG, Jellyfish, and Snowie.

Note that only matches saved in GamesGrid (.cbg) format may later be converted to other types (later means after the game or match is over and you have returned to the lobby).

How do I save matches automatically?
For matches you play, AutoSave is on by default, so whenever you exit a match with the Record button pressed (or with Save Match checked in the Options menu), the match will be saved.

Choose AutoSave Settings in the Options menu if you want to turn AutoSave on (after turning it off), select the folder where you want to save matches, select the format(s) you would like to use, or select default settings for the Record button as a player or as a watcher.

How do I not save matches automatically?
Choose AutoSave Settings from the Options menu, then uncheck the relevant When to save boxes and save your settings.

How do I save a match in a different format?
At any time while playing or watching a game, select File/Save from the main menus. Select the file type and name in the dialogue box, and save the file. If you later want to save the current game or position in a different format, select File/Save As from the main menus.

Note that only matches saved in GamesGrid (.cbg) format may later be converted (later means after the game or match is over and you have returned to the lobby).

How do I save a match in more than one format?
In your AutoSave settings, check the boxes for the formats you want, and your match will be saved in a separate file for each format selected.

How do I convert a saved match to a different format?
Matches saved in GamesGrid (.cbg) format may be converted to other formats. Select File/Open from the main menus, and select the file you want to convert. Then select File/Save As from the main menus, and select the new format. Save the file.
