The GamesGrid Shop

A curated selection of backgammon equipment โ€” boards, precision dice, doubling cubes, and merchandise โ€” opening alongside the relaunch of the GamesGrid playing platform. The selection is editorial, not exhaustive: every product included earns a place because it meets the technical standards we set for tournament-grade competitive play, and because it complements the wider GamesGrid project.

The shop opens for orders at platform launch. Until then, every section below is a working buyer's guide โ€” useful as reference even before any product ships โ€” and an early-access list. Subscribers receive launch notification, first-batch availability, and the founder-discount that we'll publish closer to opening.

What's in the shop

Backgammon boards

The full curated selection of competition-grade and casual backgammon boards, drawn from partner brands we've spent time with. The categories: tournament (18โ€“22-inch playing surface, suitable for rated play), club (premium materials, lower price than tournament tier), travel (magnetic or felted, portable), and luxury (signature wood and leather pieces).

The backgammon boards buyer's guide is the deepest page in the shop: it covers what separates a great board from a cheap one (geometry, inlay quality, hinge mechanics), the four board categories in detail, material trade-offs (wood vs leather vs synthetic), portability considerations, and care.

Luxury backgammon

A separate selection for the higher-end tier โ€” pieces from signature makers in olive wood, polished brass, full-grain leather, and inlay marquetry. Designer collaborations (the Jonathan Adler line and equivalents) live here when partners are confirmed. Each entry includes the editorial brief explaining why we curated it. The luxury backgammon page handles this category in depth.

Precision dice

GamesGrid-branded precision dice at casino-grade tolerances โ€” flat-faced cubes machined to within a fraction of a millimetre on each side, so the roll distribution is genuinely uniform. The same standards used in modern competitive tournament play. Single sets and pairs available. See the precision dice page for the full specification.

Doubling cubes

The doubling cube โ€” the single most important rule innovation in modern backgammon โ€” has its own page. Single GamesGrid-branded cubes in standard tournament weight, plus collector editions for cube enthusiasts. The doubling cube page covers cube anatomy, the standard 2/4/8/16/32/64 numbering, and how to choose between weights.

Apparel and merchandise

GamesGrid-branded T-shirts, hoodies, and accessories. Limited runs at launch โ€” the apparel programme expands as the brand grows. The apparel page carries the current lineup.

Why a curated shop, not a marketplace

GamesGrid is editorial by design. The encyclopedia layer โ€” the rules page, the mathematics page, the strategy page, the glossary โ€” exists because we care about getting backgammon right. The shop runs on the same principle: we include products that pass a real bar of quality, and we explain why they're in the selection.

Open marketplaces work for some categories. Backgammon equipment is not one of them. There is no point in stocking a fifty-dollar wooden board with a warped playing surface and hinges that fail in six months; the player will replace it with a real board within a year. The shop is small for that reason: every product survives a real selection process and our editorial review.

The partner brands for physical boards are independent manufacturers we've spent time with โ€” some of them family workshops with thirty-year reputations in the trade, some of them newer makers whose work we believe deserves wider attention. Specific brand names are added to each category page as partnerships firm up.

For digital items โ€” boards, checkers, dice, and cubes that exist as cosmetic options inside the playing platform โ€” the offering is different: these are GamesGrid-original designs under names we invent for the platform itself, made to enrich the visual layer of a match without affecting gameplay outcomes. They are not pay-to-win. The platform's competitive integrity stance ("no coins, no pay-to-win, no rigged dice" โ€” see the platform position on the homepage) applies to cosmetics as much as it does to anything else.
