Some evenings call for a longer match. Others call for speed, pressure and just enough time to make your decision.
Choose your match length and pace: an unhurried clock, a normal one, speed, superspeed or no clock at all.
Friendly table settings also let you choose whether to use the doubling cube, apply the Crawford rule and display the pip count. Agree on the setup before you begin, then concentrate on the game.

You should not have to give up a game of backgammon because nobody you know is available.
GamesGrid brings together over 500 virtual club members from 120 countries, with measured playing strengths ranging from beginner to world-class. There is always someone ready to play, for free, as often and for as long as you like.
They bring more than a level to beat. Each has a personality, a voice and a playing style of their own. Unlike the preset messages used in human matches, conversations with members can explore their backgrounds, interests and stories. Their personalities shape how they respond, giving you someone to get to know as well as someone to compete against.
They also respect your time. They do not deliberately stall the clock when losing or abandon a match because the dice turn against them. They play on or resign when the position calls for it.

Friendly matches let you enjoy the competition without affecting your ranking. The result still matters to the two people at the table, even when there are no rating points attached.
Ranked play will add another reason to come back. Match results will update your rating, build your competitive record and move you through the leaderboard.

A backgammon board is part of the pleasure of playing. Its colours, its materials, the sound of the dice and the feel of moving a checker all contribute to the experience.
GamesGrid brings that attention to the screen.
Our clean, 2D top-down view gives the board as much space as your screen allows. We have designed beautiful boards for you to play on, paying attention to the details that give each one its character, from the playing surface and colour combinations to the arrangement of the checker trays.
The collection will include a wide range of sets, with different designs, colours and material finishes to choose from.
And the differences are not just visual. Dice landing on cork should not sound like dice landing on wood or leather. The sounds change with the board, reflecting the materials of the set you are playing on.
When you spend hours at the board, it should be a pleasure to look at and to listen to.

Questions about playing online
Can I chat with my opponent?
In matches between human players, on-screen chat is kept to a few preset messages for the table essentials, such as wishing your opponent good luck or acknowledging a well-played game.
Is online play free?
Yes. As a free member you will always be able to play as many online games as you like — no coins, gems, energy timers or advertising. Optional paid memberships will come later with extra features and community benefits; they add to the experience and never limit free play.
Do my results count?
Yes. Every match becomes part of your record, ready for the next time someone asks who won. Ranked matches count towards the leaderboard; friendly matches do not affect your ranking.
