We built GamesGrid as a club because we wanted you to feel that you are joining a place, not simply opening a game. Somewhere with familiar faces, good conversation and a board always ready for another match.
For the setting, we drew inspiration from backgammon’s glamorous association with the rich and famous. Think of an elegant private club, with leather Chesterfields, antique paintings, beautifully crafted furniture and warm, wood-panelled rooms. The kind of place where you would happily settle into a comfortable chair and spend an evening playing backgammon.
That is the atmosphere we are bringing to GamesGrid: stylish, sophisticated and full of character. A club built around the game we love, where you do not have to be rich or famous to feel at home.
Your next match is only the beginning
Enjoy a friendly match, compete for your place on the leaderboard, or build a single-player career with familiar rivals and promotion to play for.
GamesGrid brings you the full depth of backgammon, without watering it down. No adverts to click away. No coins, gems or credits you're pushed to buy to keep playing.
Play on a clean, beautifully designed 2D top-down board, with smooth, responsive controls that keep the focus where it belongs: on the game.
The table. A 5-point match; the player has rolled double 1 and it is his move.
The club opens in stages. Everything on this page is what we are building; the first of it — a demo for invited players, then friendly matches online — opens before the rest. Nothing here is sold as available before it is.
Matches — friendly or ranked
Play for the pleasure of the game, or for your place on the leaderboard.
Friendly matches let you challenge another player without affecting your ranking. Ranked matches give you a result to build on and a leaderboard to climb.
In friendly matches, choose your match length and pace, from an unhurried game to speed or superspeed — or play without a clock. Create a room with your preferred settings, or accept another player's invitation.
Single games — play for chips, not cash
Prefer single games to matches? Play with money-game rules, including support for automatic doubles, beavers and raccoons.
The cube decisions matter, but no real money is at risk. All stakes use simulated chips, which cannot be bought or cashed out.
After the last roll, the review is waiting
The match ends and every decision in it has already been reviewed by the engine at full strength. One click and you see which moves were best, which were errors and which one cost you the match — with the position redrawn so you can see it for yourself.
The review. Every decision graded on the right; click one and the board shows the position and the move you played.
You get your Performance Rating, the measure serious backgammon uses for how well you actually played, and your Luck beside it. Win with a bad PR or lose with a good one: now you will know which it was.
Every match can be exported, so you can check our numbers in any engine you like.
The match is over: your result, your Performance Rating and your Luck, side by side with your opponent's.
Online tournaments
Online tournaments are in development, with human-only events and mixed fields bringing human players and our club members into the same competition.
In mixed events, members will help complete the field. Each brings a measured playing strength—and a match you still have to win.
Career Mode — make a name for yourself
Build your single-player career alongside over 500 virtual club members, each with a name, a face, a country, a voice and a personality of their own. They enter the same tournaments, compete in the same leagues, win, lose, rise and fall. Get to know their playing styles, follow their careers and discover who your biggest rivals will be.
Every match between members is played out by the game engine, producing the results that shape your career world.
Their playing strengths range from beginner to world class, giving you opponents at your level and tougher competition to work towards. Their decisions and mistakes are designed to reflect the level you're facing.
Leagues — earn your place
Get to know your rivals over a season. Learn how they play, fight for promotion and try to stay clear of relegation.
In Career Mode, your opponents are ready when you are. You can play through a season without arranging every match around somebody else's diary.
Each division gives you a new challenge. Earn promotion and you'll face stronger opposition, with new rivals to get to know and another place to fight for.
Your next match might be the one that takes you up.
Where to next
That is the table. The rest of the club has a page of its own: build a name in Career Mode, play for a title in the tournaments, earn your place in the leagues, or find out how playing online will work. Start wherever you like — the board is the same everywhere.

FAQ — what is free, what comes later, how the members work
Our board makers each have a range of their own, specialised in different materials and accessories, with a style that is unmistakably theirs. Every board is built from its own materials — one for the playing field, one for the exterior.
Does the sound really differ per board?
Yes. The dice roll differently on cork than on leather, on wool than on wood, and so do the checkers when they land. We have put a lot of work into the sound, because that is what makes a table feel like a table and not a screen. Turn the sound on.
Can I play single games instead of matches?
Yes. Play with money-game rules, including automatic doubles, beavers and raccoons. The cube decisions matter, but no real money is at risk: all stakes use simulated chips, which cannot be bought or cashed out.
Can I choose the pace of a match?
Yes. In friendly matches, choose your match length and pace, from an unhurried game to speed or superspeed — or play without a clock. Create a room with your preferred settings, or accept another player's invitation.
Is every match analysed?
Yes. The match ends and every decision has already been reviewed by the engine at full strength: which moves were best, which were errors and which one cost you the match. You get your Performance Rating and your Luck, and every match can be exported to check in any engine you like.
