About Thomas Fischer

Thomas Fischer designs drivetrains for a large car maker, work that rewards a man who can leave a problem alone for a fortnight and come back to it whole. His grandfather, who spent his last decade in the family house, put a board in front of him at fourteen. He played serious chess into his twenties, stopped at twenty-eight and has never once said that he misses it. In 2022 he founded a tournament that now runs three editions a year. Whenever anybody raises the league table he explains that the standings are somebody else's hobby, and he has not missed a fixture since the day he joined.
