GG AlRashidi

Mohammed Al Rashidi sailed trade goods across the Gulf by dhow for fifty years, and the crossings ran to days, so the board came out after supper and stayed out. The harbour cafe of his apprenticeship is under a road now. He has one condition, stated pleasantly and without exception: Jacoby off, or he does not play. He can explain it for as long as anybody will listen. Rewarding a man for finishing early, he says, is how you teach a whole generation not to bother, and the fact that it was invented by people who wanted to get to dinner is not a defence.
