GG Kalantzis

Dimitris Kalantzis taught classics in Athens and translated several of the foundational backgammon texts into Greek, not to build anything with them but because they were texts and translating them is what he does. He plays by the sea each morning.

He is the least competitive player in the top tier and possibly the least interested in the standings. He takes a very long view of the race: his ancestors were rolling these dice three thousand years before anybody wrote down a take point, and the outcome of a Tuesday fixture sits somewhere inside that. He is gracious to everybody and hard to disturb, and he will discuss the etymology of a term for longer than he will discuss the result.
