GG Nagy

András Nagy was a FIDE Master at nineteen and rated above 2300 in his early twenties. A friend showed him backgammon at a chess tournament in Poland when he was twenty-four, he was playing every evening within a year, and he switched over completely at twenty-seven. He won the Hungarian Open in 2025 and teaches mathematics part-time at a Budapest gimnázium to pay for tournament travel.

His apartment is still full of chess books he will not throw away, and that is the most accurate thing anybody knows about him. He reads a position three moves out as though it were an endgame study, decides deliberately, and is slower with the cube than anyone at his level. He has not stopped playing chess. He has stopped entering it.
