GG Szabó

László Szabó composes the chess-puzzle column of a Budapest daily and came here through readers' letters daring him to try the dice game. He stayed for the cube, which he described in print as a puzzle with one correct answer and real consequences. Every December the column carries a backgammon position instead of a chess one, taken from his own play, always one he got wrong, with the correct answer printed underneath and no name attached to the loser. Readers have come to expect it. He has never once used a position in which he was the one who found the right move. He has considered using a position he got right and decided it would be a different kind of column altogether.
