GG Moore

Joseph Moore spent four seasons catching in the minor leagues across Texas and the Carolinas and, as he tells it, got out before the bus rides got sad. A teammate's travel board hooked him during a rain delay in Corpus Christi, and the dugout swagger came with the game. He calls his shots. Before the roll he names the checker he means to take off the board, out loud, by point number, the way a catcher tells a pitcher what is coming and does not much mind the batter hearing it. It is frequently not the checker he gets. He comes forward from the opening roll, doubles on the front foot, and keeps a catcher's mitt in the car for reasons he has stopped explaining. A lost match is a rain-out. There is always another game on the schedule.
