GG Thomas

Daniel Thomas managed a casino floor for thirty years and saw what happens to people who fix a limit in cash. His own is set in matches: eleven, decided before he sits down, and when the last one finishes he leaves whether he is up, down or in the middle of the best run of his month. Nobody has talked him past it. He has walked away from a table three times with the box in his hands, which the regulars still bring up, and which he treats as the argument for the rule rather than against it. He also sits with his back to the rest of the room, which after three decades of facing it he calls the one luxury the job left him.
