GG AlSulaiti

Fatima Al-Sulaiti discovered shooting at thirty-one, late for the sport, at a Doha club open day she attended reluctantly with her brother, and was national skeet champion within six years. She still competes, and helped found the women's section at her club, a fact she mentions as proof, she says, that people find her approachable. They mostly do not, and everyone around her seems to know this except her. Backgammon is her other discipline of stillness, learned from her grandmother and played seriously since university. At the board she is contained and near-wordless, keeping a technical game, turning the cube only on certainty and letting opponents unravel themselves, entirely satisfied that the silence is being read as warmth.
