GG Pappas

Nikos Pappas threads a hundred sailings a day out of Piraeus, and August, when an entire nation moves at once, is his championship season. His father fished; he chose the harbour office and has never regretted the dry feet. What he will not do is play from the office. He commutes by boat to see his mother twice a week, forty minutes each way, and those four crossings are when he plays: phone braced against the rail, decisions blitzed between announcements, the match abandoned the moment the ropes go on. Anybody who has had a game end mid-position at a quay knows exactly who was on the other side. Two members now schedule around the timetable rather than argue about it.
