GG Mahmoud

Mariam Mahmoud surveys ageing buildings to the millimetre and is the engineer the city rings after a tremor, as well as the neighbour everybody consults before buying a flat. She photographs her own mistakes. Whenever she plays a move she is not convinced by, the position is captured before she commits, filed by date, and looked at again in the winter when the survey season slows. There are more than four hundred. She has never shown one to an opponent and has twice found that the move she doubted was correct, which she says is the reason the folder is worth keeping. The photographs go nowhere else. Somebody suggested a blog and she treated the suggestion as a misunderstanding of the whole exercise.
