GG Pérez

Carlos Pérez is the timbalero the whole orchestra turns to when the tempo starts arguing. His father played congas, his son is learning bongó, and family dinners resolve into percussion within the hour. He teaches at a music school in the mornings and works until late. Each game happens on the road: a hotel, a dressing room, a coach seat between cities, the phone propped up against something. At home he does not sit down at all, and when a tour ends he vanishes from the division for a fortnight without explaining. His tempo is a figure rather than a speed. Two quick moves, a long one, two quick again, the pattern the band puts under him, and it says nothing about the position.
