GG Stan

Maria Stan joined the Romanian National Ballet at sixteen, was prima ballerina by twenty-four, guested at the Bolshoi and danced nineteen seasons at the State Opera. She taught at the National University of Music until 2018. She learned DMP from her grandfather and never stopped, and a son living abroad put her on the original GamesGrid in the early 2000s so that the two of them could keep playing across the distance. When it closed she went back to the board on the table, and her granddaughters brought her online again in 2023. She plays an hour a night from her phone, fast and almost silently, and the tempo is what beats people. She takes her hand off the mouse before she has finished thinking, which sounds like a flaw and is not: the rhythm never breaks, and opponents start hurrying to keep up with somebody who was never in a hurry. Her bear-off is the tidiest thing on the platform. She is also far more competitive than the silence suggests, says nothing at all afterwards, and knows precisely which members she has never beaten.
