GG Bouazizi

Yacine Bouazizi taught French literature in Algiers for decades, Camus and the absurdists in particular, and he retired without ever quite leaving the subject. He went up a division last season and it has gone badly. He is losing to people he cannot read, on a schedule, and he reports on it afterwards with the delight of a man who has spent forty years teaching that this is precisely how things are: the effort is sincere, the outcome is indifferent to it, and the only unserious response is to be surprised. Opponents find the good humour harder to play against than any complaint would be.
