GG Hansen

Magnus Hansen works out of Klaksvik for most of it and spends the rest on the cliffs, roped to the same iron rings his great-grandfather hammered in, gathering eggs hundreds of metres above the water in the old way. He has never fallen. His brother has, on two occasions, into the sea, and climbed back up both times. From the middle of May he is unavailable and tells everybody beforehand, by message, with the days marked, which nobody else in his division bothers to do. Winter is another matter: the harbour cafe runs chips through the dark and he is at that table most nights it happens. He is the only member of his division who has ever apologised in advance for a whole season.
