GG Joensen

Jákup Joensen fished the North Atlantic out of the Faroes for forty-five years, from open boats to trawlers and back, by choice, to a small boat for the last decade, and has read that grey sea in every temper it owns. The game came aboard with a Norwegian crewman in the eighties and never left. There is nobody at home who plays it. Every opponent he has ever had has been a stranger: a passing crewman, a name on a screen, somebody in a country he will not visit. Forty years of that has made him entirely comfortable with it and has not made him any less aware of it. He plays a metronomic, grinding game and says almost nothing.
