GG Issa

Rana Issa restores Roman and Byzantine mosaic, setting stones into pavements older than most of the cities that have claimed them, where one wrong piece is a permanent flaw and she has placed perhaps a million right ones. She lectures at the university, digs in summer, and keeps a sorting table on the balcony to her husband's resignation. She will not touch a checker while the previous roll is still showing. Everything must be cleared, settled, finished, and only then does she begin, which adds a beat to every turn and has cost her more clock than any decision she has ever taken.
