GG Magnússon

Sigurður Magnússon guides climbers across Vatnajökull, reading crevasse fields and weather windows on the largest ice cap in Europe, where his working voice is mostly hand signals and his working temperature rarely troubles zero. He winters in a hut he rebuilt himself and reads the sagas slowly. He believes he is about as talkative as anybody else here. He greets people, he says, he thanks them afterwards, he answers questions, and by his own reckoning that is a perfectly ordinary amount of conversation for a club like this one. Three seasons have produced forty-one messages in total. He plays clean, exact, unhurried moves and waits for the error, and the loud thing, he says, is usually the thing about to fall into something.
