GG Petkova

Desislava Petkova climbs competition walls for a Sofia club and reads a route from the ground in cold silence, every hold and every clip and the one move that will spit you off, before her hands ever touch rock. She sets routes part-time and is feared for them. She does not answer the first hello. It goes past, unacknowledged, and if a second one follows she replies to that, briefly, which she has never explained and which regulars in her division now treat as a small ritual of admission. She plays economically and strikes only when it is right. Reading first and committing once, she notes, is simply how a person avoids falling, anywhere.
