GG Wójcik

Piotr Wójcik kept a harbour café for four decades, close enough to the quay that he knew every skipper by the sound of the engine, and he retired upstairs from it. His playing year follows the fleet. When the boats are out he is barely present; when the season shuts and the crews are ashore he is on every evening, because that was always when the café was full and the games ran long. From April onwards he is difficult to find. He regards this as obvious and has never understood why the fixture list disagrees. His fixtures pile up in the autumn and he clears them all in three weeks, which the standings find hard to absorb.
