GG Bauer

Michael Bauer designed concert halls, a career spent making certain that nothing is decided twice, and he has carried the working method into retirement intact. The fixture list appears and he plays that day. Not the following morning, not the final evening of the window: within the hour, usually, before the rest of the division has looked at the draw. Opponents who like to prepare find themselves summoned by a man who does not appear to regard preparation as a real activity. He offers no explanation for any of it. The season arrives, and he is finished with his part of it while the others are still deciding when to begin.
