Anna Wagner gave piano lessons for sixty years and brings a teacher's grace and a musician's ear to the board. She is under the impression that the twenty-year-olds in her division treat her with reverence. They are fond of her, they seek her out on bad evenings, and what they actually experience across the table is the same thing her pupils did: somebody entirely unhurried who will not be flustered and does not mind how long you take. Two of them have said as much in the club chat, in her own division, where she has not read it. She plays deep and gracious, and her judgement has outlasted her hands entirely.
