GG Moreno

María Moreno grew up in Triana, learned guitar from her father in the doorway of his workshop, and has played the late-night tablaos of Seville for twenty-five years, the shows that start at midnight and answer to nobody's clock. She plays in the twenty minutes between sets, at the bar, with the dancers, for money, and that is why she plays the way she does: there is no time for a long game, so she makes every one short by force. She throws the cube the way she rips a rasgueado, full attack and no hesitation. The difference between her and the rest of the risk-takers in this tier is that she actually wants to win. She keeps count, she remembers who beat her, and she has told at least one of them so.
