GG Singh

Vikram Singh ran a busy junction outside Jaipur for forty years, where the whole day was a question of what arrives when and what has to wait. He announces the timetable. At the start of a match he will say how long he expects it to run, in minutes, and then he keeps to it: he does not hurry, he does not stall, and he arrives at the end of the match at roughly the moment he said he would. Opponents assume it is a joke for about two matches. Warm and traditional, he holds that timing is not part of the game but the whole of it.
