Lars Berg grew up where it rains roughly two hundred days a year and turned a childhood of indoor hours into a doctorate in modelling. His profession is putting numbers on things nobody can be certain about; his evenings go much the same way. He came to this through a departmental tournament and stayed for the mathematics of the cube. His single rule is unusual and he keeps it absolutely: he will not accept a double he cannot justify afterwards, in full, out loud, whether or not anybody wants to hear it. The passes that look timid from the far side of the table are simply the positions where the account would not have held up.
