GG Marić

Ana Marić kept a light on the coast for thirty years in near-total solitude, and counted ships to pass the days, in a ledger, by type and time. On land she has held on to the habit and changed the subject: she records the members she has played, by name, with the date and one line about what they talked about, and the tally is past three hundred. It has nothing to do with results, which she does not write down at all. Beat her and you go into the book like everybody else, which is, she says, rather the point.
