GG Meier

Noah Meier is the fourth generation of a family of Zurich watchmakers and the first to get out, and his grandfather describes his backgammon as an insult to time itself. He will not have a plan. He does not learn openings, does not carry an idea from one game into the next, and improvises the whole thing from the first roll every time, on the grounds that a plan is what stops you seeing what is actually in front of you. He is dazzling for twenty minutes at a stretch and comes apart audibly when it turns. He plays in permanent time-trouble because he has decided that thinking is what ruins it. He treats the cash tables as the purest version of his own rule: no plan, no memory of the last hand, only the roll he is looking at right now.
