GG Mwamba

Hassan Mwamba built dhows on the Swahili coast for forty years, shaping planks by eye and hand faster than most could measure them, and he still credits his hands with the same speed at the board. He believes he moves quickly because his fingers know the position before his head has caught up, and says so to anybody who asks. It is the other way round. His hand rests on a checker for a beat while the read is actually made, and only then does it move, quick enough that the pause goes unnoticed, including by him. His opponents have worked this out. He has not, and nobody in his circle has thought it worth mentioning.
