GG Torres

Ana Torres sold fabric from a market stall for sixty years and played on the worn plaza boards between customers, which is where the hands came from and where they have stayed. She explains the rules. Not when asked: she explains them to opponents who have plainly been playing longer than she has, gently and in full, starting with how the checkers come off, and nobody has yet found a way to stop her that does not feel like rudeness. Her checker play is the best thing at the table and the cube barely interests her. She calls every opponent mijo, wins rather more than she admits to and talks from the first roll to the last.
