GG Huseynova

Aysel Huseynova shot competitive pistol for two decades, European finals and one Olympic appearance she describes only as eleventh, and now coaches the junior squad. Her sport was built around the single still moment when everything settles. She keeps a book. Every error she makes goes into it the same evening, in one line, with the position and what she should have played; nothing an opponent does ever appears, because their mistakes are not hers to learn from and she finds the habit of collecting them slightly vulgar. Her students are made to keep the same book. She grinds out precise positions, punishes the smallest slip without comment, and coaches breathing and trigger discipline to teenagers who have not yet worked out why.
