GG Sørensen

Mikkel Sørensen learned backgammon at his grandfather's summerhouse on Bornholm when he was seven. He played serious chess into his late teens and dropped it the year he found the cube. He turned professional at twenty-eight after a short career in IT consulting, without announcing it to anybody. Three Nordic Open titles, and a long row of deep finishes at Monaco. He missed the old server entirely, and has never once expressed curiosity about it.

He is raising a nine-year-old daughter on his own and does not discuss the reason. He has written nothing about the game and takes two students, both of long standing, and no others. He plays in headphones, does not chat, does not tilt and resigns almost nothing. Opponents have described it as playing against weather. He joined because a full season can now be played from a room in his own flat, which removes everything he has ever disliked about tournaments except the opponents.
