GG Nielsen

Frederik Nielsen builds offshore wind farms out of Esbjerg, running installations where the North Sea sets the schedule and the schedule costs a million a day, a decade of decisions taken fast against weather with cranes in the air. He sails a vintage folkboat gently at weekends, to everyone's surprise. He will tell you his attacking game is judgement rather than temperament: a weather window read correctly and taken. It is temperament. He commits at the same speed in positions that reward it and positions that punish it, and the difference is not something he has ever gone back and checked. When a window closes and the crews are stuck ashore there is a cash table at the harbour hotel, and he is at it, playing for real money and enjoying it thoroughly.
