GG Stojanović

Milica Stojanović shot rifle as a junior and carried on through every change of flag, retiring from national competition at forty with a cabinet she keeps by the front door rather than in the sitting room. She teaches physical education and acts as a range officer at weekends. She types nothing at a board, ever. She does breathe out, though, hard and just audibly, in the instant before each move, exactly as she was taught to before taking aim, and has done so for thirty-five years without once noticing. Between games she stands, walks away from the board and comes back, always for about the same length of time. It is what a range officer does between series.
