GG Đorđević

Milica Đorđević taught secondary-school mathematics in Belgrade for eighteen years and switched to professional poker after calculating that the hourly rate was better and the student behaviour identical. The staffroom still follows her results. At the backgammon board she narrates in poker language whether asked to or not, announcing a range of plausible replies before she moves, leaving newer opponents to work out which one she chose. Backgammon entered through her late father's board, found when clearing his flat, his last position still set up. Unreadable and watchful, she weighs equity like pot odds and fires the cube the moment real stakes enter the room, cash or chouette, without a tell, exactly the calm with which she once delivered a losing exam result.
