GG Celik

Tolga Celik ran one of Bursa's historic marble hamams, all steam and stone, for forty years, where a man who lingers gets scalded. He keeps the running score on a paper pad, in pencil, exactly as he must once have logged bathhouse takings, and photographs the finished sheet at the end of every match, a habit he has never once explained. His game is quick and decisive, venerable and warm. He settles a rough session as fast as he once mopped a flooded changing room before opening. Wise and calm between moves, beloved in his quarter, he holds that the old baths taught him to read a room in a glance, and the paper pad simply keeps him honest about it.
