GG Munteanu

Maria Munteanu was a junior chess champion who took a software job in Chișinău at twenty-one and found that sprint deadlines and Swiss pairings reward the same temperament. She writes firmware for agricultural sensors, an unglamorous specialty she defends fiercely. The doubles are decided in advance. Before a match she works out the scores at which she will turn the cube and the scores at which she will pass, writes them down, and then plays the whole thing against that list rather than against the position in front of her. It is right more often than it should be. Her analysis goes in the same green notebooks she used for chess.
