GG Cheong

Mei Cheong staffs the concierge desk of one of the vast resort hotels on the overnight rota, which is the shift she asked for, because after three the lobby empties and the requests stop arriving. She has sourced a tailor, a violin and a wedding officiant at those hours, and she keeps the thank-you notes in a drawer she calls the evidence. Every match she plays comes off that desk. Nothing from home, nothing on a day off: the board opens when she clocks in and shuts when the morning staff walk through. She moves like somebody who may be interrupted at any second, because she may be, and she answers roughly half of what is typed at her.
