GG Lei

Ming Lei writes the compliance software behind Macau's casino floors, the systems that watch the games being watched, and played serious chess through school before programming paid better. He has never once gambled in the city he audits, a fact colleagues find hilarious and he finds simply professional. His partner has never watched him play a single match, online or in the room, by mutual and entirely comfortable agreement, backgammon being the one part of his week that stays fully his own. He calculates several moves ahead, turns the cube with a coder's feel for odds, and debugs his losses the way he debugs production code, same evening, root cause, patch shipped. Calculation, not instinct, is the method, and he has never once pretended otherwise.
